Amazon will bring back an exclusive shopping event in October to Prime members — Prime Big Deal Days. For the second consecutive year, the retailer will hold a sale in October following its annual Prime Day sale in July.
Doug Herrington, CEO of worldwide Amazon stores, announced the fall Prime member sales in a LinkedIn post and said the retailer would share more details closer to the event.
“I can’t wait to give our Prime members access to exclusive early savings this season,” Herrington said.
Prime Big Deal Days will take place across the U.S. and 18 other countries, including: Australia, Austria, Belgium, Brazil, Canada, China, France, Germany, Italy, Japan, Luxembourg, Netherlands, Poland, Portugal, Singapore, Spain, Sweden and the United Kingdom.
It’s not surprising that Amazon would wish to continue its fall sales event to kick off the holiday sales season. Prime Big Deal Days also follows the first day of Prime Day, July 11, which produced the single largest sales day in Amazon’s history, according to previous reports from Retail Leader. During this year’s two-day shopping event, Prime members purchased more than 375 million items worldwide, compared to 300 million items last year. The retailer captured over two-fifths of consumer spending on July 11 & 12, higher than any past Prime Day, according to a report from Numerator.
More than a third (36%) of U.S. households shopped on Prime Day 2023, up nearly two points compared to last year’s event, Numerator reported. Spend per household was also up slightly — driven by more orders per household — but the order size and spend per unit were both down.
Shoppers also may be planning ahead for another October Prime member sale as they did for Prime Day in July. Four-in-five shoppers knew what they wanted to buy going into the sale, and half were specifically waiting for the sale to purchase certain products, according to Numerator. A third of shoppers used the sale to buy the same items they typically buy on Amazon at a discount, the research firm found.
