Amazon’s Prime Day is a designated period of deals for its more than 200 million Prime members. In 2020, Prime members saved $1.4 billion on Prime Day globally.
Along with announcing its annual Prime Day, Amazon also disclosed it will invest more than $100 million in small businesses selling on its e-commerce platform. The investment will include promotions to retain customers. More than one million deals from small- and medium-sized businesses will also be part of Prime Day. And Amazon’s focus on small businesses includes a curated collection of local Black-owned, woman-owned, military family-owned and other small businesses at amazon.com/SupportSmall, Chain Store Age reported.
Between June 7-20, Amazon is giving a $10 credit for Prime Day for those who spend $10 with its listed small businesses, including products from products from Amazon Handmade and Amazon Launchpad. More than 300,000 sellers on Amazon are eligible for the promotion, and Amazon Alexa owners can actually access the Prime Day specials by saying, “Alexa, shop small business” to find products.
In another small business push, Amazon is promoting a livestream shopping event on June 7 with celebrities Kristen Bell, Karamo Brown and Mindy Kaling. During Prime Day, small business products will also be highlighted.
Other major retailers, including Target and Walmart, have also announced big sales around the same time to rival Amazon. Target’s Deal Days, an online sale scheduled for June 20-22, directly overlaps with Prime Day and is being hailed as the company’s biggest digital sale of the summer.
