And the next retailer launching meal kits is ...
The Fresh Market is joining the ranks of food retailers trying to capitalize on the meal kit craze.
The North Carolina-based grocer announced that it is aiming to "take the guesswork out of preparing a deliciously different meal each week with its new 'Little Big Meal' program."
Available at all of the grocer’s 176 stores nationwide, the grab-and-go meals aim to offer solutions to the perennial “What’s for dinner?” question. Guests may simply stop by the “Little Big Meal” display every day of the week to choose from a variety of fresh ingredient options.
According to the company, each “Little Big Meal” recipe is curated with quality ingredients and offers a quick and easy meal for four – available throughout the month for $25 or less.
Nielsen Fresh data shows meal kit sales at U.S grocers totaled $80.6 million during the past year. And a study by Morningstar estimates 19 million Americans will have tried meal kits by 2021, with 11 million people making regular orders by that time.
