Bed Bath & Beyond, Buybuy Baby Roll Out Same-Day Delivery
Bed Bath & Beyond Inc. has launched same-day delivery at Bed Bath & Beyond and Buybuy Baby stores, expanding the variety of omnichannel shopping services available to shoppers gearing up for the holidays. The option follows the rollout earlier this year of its buy online, pickup in store (BOPIS) and contactless curbside pickup services.
The retailer’s same-day delivery service is available at a flat rate fee of $4.99 for orders of more than $39. Shoppers in eligible ZIP codes can shop online for products available for same-day delivery online, choosing the option at checkout. Then a personal shopper from the company’s same-day delivery partner Shipt will pick up the item at a local store and deliver it to the customer. Delivery cut-off times will vary according to location and ZIP code. For orders placed directly on the company’s websites Beyond+ members will be able use their membership discount, and customers can apply any valid coupons to purchases.
“At a time when our homes have become the center of our lives, our omni-always shopping experience is designed to make it as easy as possible to feel at home,” said Rafeh Masood, chief digital officer at Union, N.J.-based Bed Bath & Beyond. “We’ve been delighted with the strong customer response to the introduction of BOPIS and curbside pickup this year, and the addition of same-day delivery provides another simple and cost-effective way to shop with certainty from the comfort of your own home this holiday season. So, whether you need a last-minute gift, are missing that all-purpose pan for Thanksgiving dinner, or need diapers or other home essentials right away, we will be there to help make this holiday season special.”
The company has also revealed a new strategic partnership with Birmingham, Alabama-based Shipt and San Francisco-based Instacart, both of which each reach more than 80% of U.S. households. Same-day delivery service will also be available on the Shipt and Instacart websites and mobile apps. Existing Shipt customers will still get free delivery on all orders of more than $35 when shopping directly via Shipt platforms.
“We are excited to launch a new strategic partnership with Shipt and Instacart on same-day delivery, bringing our unique, customer-inspired home, baby and holiday range to their marketplaces to help us reach millions more people this holiday season,” added Masood.
Earlier this month, the retailer revealed that, as part of its ongoing bid to strengthen its omnichannel capabilities, it was employing Deloitte as a strategic transformation services partner and had signed a five-year agreement with Google Cloud to deploy a range of platform solutions to further personalize the shopping experience for customers, enhance fulfillment capacity, and optimize merchandise planning and demand forecasting. This omnichannel push, however, has led to what the company called a major realignment of its organizational structure that included a workforce reduction of about 2,800 jobs at its corporate headquarters and retail banner stores.
