Big Lots gets ready for digital future
Big Lots has added a new executive with extensive e-commerce and tech innovation experience to bolster is digital strategy.
The retailer has named Stephen M. Haffer as Senior Vice President, Chief Customer Officer. Haffer, formerly Chief Innovation Officer at American Signature Inc., will be a member of the Executive Leadership Team of the Big Lots company with primary responsibility for customer engagement and messaging touchpoints, including marketing, advertising, brand development and e-commerce.

"His impressive background as a marketing executive with extensive experience in e-commerce and customer engagement and acquisition, most notably in the furniture industry, will be instrumental as we strategize to grow our business. We look forward to his leadership as we reposition our brand as a new kind of community retailer and execute the multi-year rollout of our Store of the Future initiative."
Big Lots has been focused on its e-commerce business and improving merchandising and marketing in stores. The retailer has been working on expanding its e-commerce platform, and many stores are either being closed or upgraded.
Haffer was an executive at American Signature, Inc., the parent company for Value City Furniture and American Signature Home stores, where he served in a number of roles over a 25-year career spanning Marketing, e-commerce, Information Technology, and Business Development, leading up to his appointment as Chief Innovation Officer in 2016. Haffer is graduate of Tulane University.
