Chilean Supermarket Industry Seeing Strong Growth

Retail food sales in Chile totaled $13.5 billion in 2010, up 8 percent from the prior year, and per capital spending is expected to increase to $11,183 in 2014 from $8,685 in 2009, the U.S. Department of Agriculture’s Foreign Agricultural Service reported. Three supermarkets control about 90 percent of the market, while the number of supermarket locations increased about 13 percent in 2011, according to the report.
