Circle K, which is part of Canada-based Couche-Tard, is the largest independent convenience store operator with the highest number of company-operated stores in the U.S. Couche-Tard operates more than 14,200 stores in 26 countries--10,800 of which offer road fuel.
The big hiring spree is good news for the rebounding, post-pandemic economy. However, finding labor may be easier said than done, as many companies in the service industry are finding it increasingly difficult to hire and retain employees. Some quick-serve and fast food restaurants have reported closures due to a lack of staff.
"Business is coming back, traffic is getting back on the road, and we are preparing for the future by growing our Circle K team,” Brian Hannash, president and CEO, said in a statement. “Our mission is to make our customers’ lives a little easier every day, and we do so with fast and friendly service. If you love retail and love serving customers, apply today and come grow with us!"
The hiring announcement comes on the heels of other major recruiting efforts in the U.S., including Dollar General, which is also seeking to hire 20,000 associates, and Dollar Tree, which announced plans to hire thousands of full- and part-time employees for its new store openings.
Circle K boasts flexible work hours; company growth opportunities; personal development opportunities; a stable employer with a global footprint; emergency sick care plan for hourly employees in North America including both a bank of sick pay hours and a pay continuation benefit if someone is either diagnosed with COVID-19 or is placed under a mandatory quarantine; and virtual wellness for employees who have concerns regarding the coronavirus.
The company also made note of its improved Covid-19-related safety measures for front-line employees in its hiring announcement.
