Dick’s Sporting Goods Expands Same-Day Delivery With DoorDash Partnership

- Dick’s Sporting Goods is partnering with DoorDash to expand same-day delivery options.
- More than 250,000 items will be available through the partnership.
- Dick’s has partnered with Instacart for same-day delivery since 2020.
Dick’s Sporting Goods has partnered with DoorDash to allow consumers in 47 states to order more than 250,000 items from Dick’s Sporting Goods through the DoorDash app, including athletic equipment, team apparel and seasonal goods.
“We are thrilled to partner with DoorDash and become the platform’s first sporting goods and apparel retailer to offer same-day delivery,” said Scott Casciato, Dick’s Sporting Goods’vice president of omnichannel fulfillment and athlete service, in a news release.
Since 2020, the Pittsburgh-based retailer has also offered same-day delivery with Instacart, and in 2021 expanded its partnership with Instacart to extend same-day delivery to more than 700 of its U.S. stores.
With the Instacart same-day delivery expansion, Casciato at the time said the retailer had noticed differences in consumer behavior for orders placed through the Instacart app versus its customers, who placed traditional online or in-store pickup orders. Smaller items like water bottles, tennis balls, beachballs and game-day items were more popular with Dick’s same-day delivery customers than those using its more traditional methods, he said.
DoorDash’s partnership with Dick’s is the latest example of a retailer partnering with a platform primarily associated with food deliveries to offer same-day delivery options to consumers. This month, for example, DoorDash also partnered with Big Lots, which made available for delivery more than 36,000 products in categories that include home decor, cleaning supplies and pet care supplies.
The use of delivery apps skyrocketed during the COVID-19 pandemic as consumers looked for safe ways to purchase food and other goods. Other retailers have similarly partnered with delivery platforms, including DoorDash and other services like Uber Eats and Instacart, to offer delivery to consumers. Earlier this year, a Canadian cannabis retailer launched pickup via DoorDash, and Dollar General partnered with DoorDash last year to make its products available for delivery. Instacart and Lowe’s this year partnered to offer same-day delivery of home improvement essentials.
Dick’s operates more than 850 stores, including its Golf Galaxy, Field & Stream, Public Lands, Going Going Gone! and Warehouse Sale locations. In addition to same-day delivery from DoorDash and Instacart, the retailer offers curbside and in-store pickup ready in an hour along with delivery and ship-to-store fulfillment options.
