Dollar General Adding 1,900 Stores
The new stores follow the opening of 730 locations in 2015. With the added stores, Dollar General will boast nearly 15,000 locations. Additionally, the retailer accelerated square-footage growth along the way, going from 6 percent square footage growth in 2015 to a target of 7 percent this year, and 7.5 percent planned for 2017 with the 1,000 planned units. The company also is continuing to execute about 900 relocation and remodeling projects each year, seeking to “touch all stores over a seven-year cycle.”
RL’s take: It appears that despite losing out to Dollar Tree on the bid for Family Dollar, Dollar General is doing just fine.
