Dollar General is paying tribute to a big part of its customer base -- the military community -- with a new company initiative.

The company announced that in order to keep up with Dollar General’s mission of Serving Others, 150 volunteer employees assembled 5,000 care packages that will be sent to military service members by the United Service Organizations (USO) on Aug. 11 in Nashville, Tenn.

The company recently hit a new high when it announced the opening of its 15,000th store, just days after rival discounter Dollar Tree announced its 15,000th store opening.

The kits included the following items:

  • Degree Deodorant (Unilever)

  • Colgate Toothbrush and Toothpaste (Colgate-Palmolive)

  • Visine Eye Drops (Johnson & Johnson)

  • Dental Floss and Shave Gel (Proctor and Gamble)

  • BIC Disposable Razors (BIC)

  • Banana Boat SPF Sport Lip (Edgewell)

  • Hand Sanitizer (Vijon)

  • All-in-one Shampoo and Body Wash (Henkel North America)

  • EXTRA Gum (EXTRA)

The company recently hit a new high when it announced the opening of its 15,000th store, just days after rival discounter Dollar Tree announced its 15,000th store opening. Dollar General also presented the first 500 adult customers with $10 gift cards and tote bags containing a variety of complementary products. A number of Dollar General’s vendor partners participated in the festivities by providing giveaways and entertainment throughout the day. Customers were treated to breakfast, lunch and a selection of Clover Valley private brand snack samples in the afternoon.

“Opening our 15,000th store is a major milestone for Dollar General,” said Todd Vasos, Dollar General’s CEO and Wilmington native.
