Don’t Be Too Positive with Complainers

When someone is complaining, trying to cheer them up is often the worst strategy, according to an article in Fast Company. Stephanie Vozza writes that saying positive things in response to negative ones is often perceived as delegitimizing the feelings of the person doing the complaining. Vozza recommends acknowledging the negative feelings first, then trying to concentrate on solutions.
