EBay creates prime day of its own
EBay is firing back against Amazon’s annual Prime Day with a deals event of its own.
Merely hours after Amazon announced their official Prime Day “celebration,” eBay’s CEO announced on Twitter that on the same week of Prime Day, eBay will be offering some of its best deals as well.
“@eBay will hold large deals events on the week of July 16 to showcase our significant inventory and price advantages. Expect the next wave of our brand and marketing campaign to launch as well,” CEO Devin Wenig Tweeted.
While the purpose of Prime Day is to gain not just more sales but also more Prime members, eBay is hoping to show consumers that they don’t need a monthly membership to get fantastic deals.
According to an eBay press release announcing the deals event: “Why spend money on monthly membership fees to get deals on the things you want? Beginning the week of July 16th, head to eBay for exclusive deals on whatever you're into this summer – no membership required… ever. Shop thousands of brand new, in-demand items across categories like electronics, home, fashion, and sporting goods at up to 80% off their regular retail price. And, with free shipping on eBay Deals items, you can get all the things that'll fuel all your passions.”
Although the company has not announced any of its official deals, it did specify that a number of major brands will be included, such as Apple, Samsung, Adidas, Dyson and KitchenAid.
