Amazon turned heads recently with the revelation that Prime membership now exceeds 100 million members, but another huge competitive challenge receives far less attention.
 
The new breed of discount retailers such as Aldi and to a lesser extent Lidl are having a huge impact on the retail and CPG world. These companies, along with other discounters, and their aggressive plans for growth have created a new competitive dynamic, and like Amazon, they are altering shopper expectations around price, brand, assortment, service.
