Ex-GameStop, Home Depot vet Paul Raines dies
Paul Raines, the former CEO of GameStop who was also a longtime executive with Home Depot, has died at 53.
GameStop CEO Mike Mauler said in a statement Monday that the company was "profoundly sad to learn of the passing or our friend and former chief executive officer J. Paul Raines. His spirit is woven into the fabric of our company and the entire GameStop family mourns this loss. Paul was a brilliant man and remarkable visionary, as well as a compassionate, caring and inspirational community leader who was beloved by many. Paul cared deeply about his work and his GameStop family, but his greatest love was for his family. Our heartfelt sympathies go out to them and all those whose lives andearts Paul touched during his journey.”
Paul Raines was chief executive officer of GameStop from 2010 until November 2017.
He served as chief operating officer from September 2008 to June 2010.
Before becoming COO at GameStop in 2008, Raines spent eight years with Home Depot in various management positions in retail operations, including COO and president of the southern division. Prior to Home Depot, he spent four years in global sourcing for L.L. Bean and 10 years with Kurt Salmon Associates in their consumer products group.
GameStop operates more than 7,200 stores across 14 countries.
