The Thomas K. Zaucha Entrepreneurial Excellence Award was presented to Rudy Dory, executive chairman of Newport Avenue Market, at the National Grocers Association show in San Diego. The award, sponsored by Mondelēz International, is named after NGA’s first president and CEO and is presented annually to recognize an independent grocer’s persistence, vision, and creative entrepreneurship.
“When you think of what it means to be an entrepreneur, Rudy Dory comes to mind. He’s worked almost his entire professional life in the grocery industry, growing Newport Avenue Market over the last 25 years into an innovative and strong business,” said Greg Ferrara, NGA president and CEO.
Newport Avenue Market in Bend, Oregon opened in 1991, focused on offering a variety specialty and international foods. In 2015, the operation became the first employee-owned grocery store in Central Oregon.
John Agwunobi is set to become CEO of Herbalife Nutrition on March 30, and the company also recently gave him added responsibilities as chairman. Agwunobi is a the former president of Walmart health and wellness who joined Herbalife in 2016 as chief health and nutrition officer and was named co-president in 2018.;
Kathy Loveless was named vice president and controller at The Coca-Cola Company after previously serving as chief of staff to EVP and CFO John Murphy. She joined Coca-Cola in 1988 as a treasury accountant and succeeds Larry Mark who will become VP of global finance operations.
Former Alberto-Culver president and CEO James Marino and Dunkin’ Brands Group Chairman Nigel Travis will not stand for re-election to the Office Depot board of directors. Marino and Travis served on the board for seven and eight years, respectively.
Risa Crandall was named VP of strategy and sales to lead the newly created team focused on CPG at Aki Technologies, a company focused on helping brands personalize advertising through mobile moments. Crandall previously served as VP of sales at Eyeview and was also previously with Quotient Technology.
