- Food Lion opened a new store in West Virginia on Feb. 8.
- The store includes features like fresh sushi and a self-service Asian food bar.
- Food Lion is owned and operated by Ahold Delhaize, the third-largest supermarket operator in the U.S.
Food Lion opened a new store this month, a location in Inwood, West Virginia, that the grocer promises will provide an “extensive product assortment” to consumers in the region.
According to a Feb. 6 release, the new Food Lion store opened to shoppers Feb. 8. The store spotlights grab-and-go options, a walk-in produce cooler and a self-service hog wing and Asian food bar. The new location also offers consumers a selection of organic, gluten-free and plant-based options, including products from Food Lion’s Nature’s Promise owned label.
The Inwood store also has offerings from local West Virginia businesses, including Custard Stand hot dog chili, produce from Orr’s Farm Market and pepperoni rolls from Home Industry Bakery. As part of its commitment to the community, Food Lion said it would donate 15,000 meals to the Mountaineer Food Bank through its Food Lion Feeds hunger-relief initiative. The grocer also said it would partner with the organization to have it regularly collect soon-to-expire food for distribution.
The new location also offers Food Lion’s To Go grocery pick-up service. Shoppers can place orders through Food Lion’s To Go website and app to pick up their orders at the store. The grocer pointed toward its use of overhead LED lighting as an example of its sustainability efforts at the new store.
The new store in West Virginia is the latest in a string of openings for the retailer, which opened four stores last year, according to Progressive Grocer.
Food Lion is owned and operated by Ahold Delhaize, which operates several other popular grocery banners in the U.S., including Giant and Stop & Shop. Ahold Delhaize is the third-largest supermarket operator in the U.S. based on retail sales, behind Kroger and Albertsons, according to 2021 data from Kantar and the National Retail Federation (NRF).
