Gerrity’s To Replace Checkout Lanes with App
The app, which consumers may download to their smartphones, allows shoppers to scan items as they shop and place them in their bag as they go. They pay for their grocery bill by entering their payment information into the app before they leave. The retailer’s co-owner Joe Fasula spoke at the National Retail Federation’s retail trade conference Monday, saying the new technology could save the company money while improving efficiency. Skip eventually could enable Gerrity’s to scrap its traditional checkstands, which cost about $15,000 each.
