H-E-B opened a new e-commerce fulfillment center in Katy, Texas, a project that further expands the retailer’s commitment to integrate technologies that drive omnichannel growth. At more than 100,000 square feet in size, it is the largest e-commerce fulfillment center for the grocer, coming in at twice the size of previous facilities.
The Katy location will support H-E-B curbside and home delivery orders across the Houston area. Building on the retailer’s long standing presence in the area, the move reinforces H-E-B’s commitment to serve more customers in this growing part of Texas.
H-E-B’s fulfillment centers stock goods found in stores, which are used to satisfy curbside and home delivery services available at more than 270 stores in Texas. To help streamline the process and boost productivity, the facilities use various forms of automation.
“We’re excited to utilize this facility to support the Houston area, one of the largest markets for our company,” said Kedar Patel, H-E-B Group Vice President of eCommerce. “Across our business we are adopting innovative technologies that give our Partners the tools they need to provide great service and a top-quality shopping experience for our customers.”
The Katy facility marks H-E-B’s seventh e-commerce fulfillment center the company has opened since 2018. By the end of next year, H-E-B looks to open additional facilities across the state to help support the retailer’s expansion throughout Texas. As Retail Leader has previously reported, H-E-B recently opened new stores in Georgetown, Austin and McKinney, Texas. The grocer has also started construction on a new 127,000-square-foot store in Pflugerville, Texas, to open in the fall of next year.
Currently, H-E-B operates more than 420 stores throughout Texas and Mexico. As one of the nation's largest independently owned food retailers, H-E-B achieved $38.9 billion in annual sales last year, up from $34 billion in 2021, according to Progressive Grocer’s 2023 list of the top food and consumables retailers in North America.
