Half of Americans Say They Struggle to Afford Basics

About 52 percent of Americans surveyed said they were struggling financially to afford necessities, according to a report by WSL/Strategic Retail. Three-quarters of women stated they try to get the lowest price on everything they buy, up 12 percentage points from 2008 and 22 percentage points from 2004. Two-thirds of women also stated that trusted brand names are not worth paying more for, and 68 percent said they regularly use coupons to reduce costs, up seven percentage points versus 2010.
