How retailers can surf the coming Amazon wave
With the number of Amazon Prime members estimated to more than double by 2029, retailers need to be focused on making the path to purchase as painless as possible.
New data from Citigroup show that the number of Amazon Prime members, now at 100 million, is expected to surpass 275 million by 2029. Prime members are growing 35 percent to 40 percent per year, and most studies suggest that Prime members spend twice as much as non-Prime members, Citi says.
The company now expects roughly 80 percent of U.S. households adopt the service by 2029. Further, international members may still be warming up to the service, with overseas members spending $35 to $40 per month compared to the $120 per month spent by American Prime members.
