Iconic New York City fish market bypasses retailers

Fulton Fish Market says its new website will offer the largest assortment of seafood in the world, online, delivered direct to consumers' doors. The selection includes fresh fish and other sustainable seafood that can be ordered via any device.

"We honed our craft and perfected the model in restaurants in Chicago and New York," said Cyndi Metallo, Fulton Fish Market's VP of Product. "The Fulton Fish Market in New York is the largest seafood market in the western hemisphere with millions of pounds of fresh seafood spilling over the docks every midnight.  We specialize in seafood caught in American waters, the most highly regulated fisheries in the world."

According to FultonFishMarket.com, "North America has the largest protected ocean area in the world home to thousands of delicious, sustainable seafood and shellfish species. The best, freshest, safest, and most sustainable seafood on the globe is harvested from the U.S. coasts. ... Yet our own seafood is almost never available in supermarkets or restaurants in our communities. Over 70% of what is fished here is sent overseas."

The market is looking to change that by making available the "freshest, best seafood" to consumers across the United States.

Fulton Fish Market was founded in New York City in 1822.
