Jokr, is launching in New York City--the location of the company’s U.S. headquarters--with plans to roll out to at least five other cities this year. The company is powered by micro fulfillment hubs to fill spontaneous and everyday needs, according to Progressive Grocer. Jokr sells products across several categories, including grocery, personal care, baby, wellness and household items.
Jokr was founded by a team of former Walmart, Uber, Delivery Hero and Softbank executives and has funding from Tiger Global and HV Capital, as well as the founders of the company. Customers do not have to meet a minimum order amount to receive delivery, which is offered without delivery fees.
“Our mission is simple: Jokr aims to improve the speed of delivery, lower the price and create an outstanding customer experience for anything that can be locally delivered,” said U.S. co-founder Zachary Dennett, a veteran of Hoboken, New Jersey-based Jet.com and Walmart, which acquired the website in 2016 and wound it down four years later. “Recognizing consumer demand for fast, consistent delivery of everyday products, Jokr offers a highly curated and data-driven selection of products that is hyper-localized for each and every neighborhood, taking the guesswork out of what product consumers want and need.”
The company’s micro-fulfillment hubs fulfill orders and are replenished daily. Orders are fulfilled by pickers before they are given to an awaiting rider to deliver to customers within 15 minutes or less. Jokr aims to revitalize empty storefronts by expanding into strategic real estate locations throughout NYC, according to PG. The company’s employees are full time, with benefits and salaries, unlike many other delivery companies.
Beyond New York, Jokr intends to expand across the Mid-Atlantic, including Boston, with additional European and South American cities in the next few months. The company is already live outside the U.S., including in Sao Paulo, Brazil; Lima, Peru; Mexico City and Guadalajara, Mexico; and Bogota, Colombia. Within New York City, Jokr’s delivery services reach most of Manhattan below 35th Street, as well as Williamsburg, Brooklyn and Long Island City and Jackson Heights in Queens.
