JCPenney Aims to Hire 25K Workers for Holiday Season

Department store retailer JCPenney is hiring 25,000 seasonal associates ahead of the holiday shopping season.

To recruit prospective associates, JCPenney is also offering an extra $2 per hour for store associates on holiday weekends and critical days. The retailer has also decided to close on Thanksgiving Day, opening at 5 a.m. on Black Friday and the weekends leading up to Christmas.

JCPenney is also following in the footsteps of other major retailers, including Walmart and Target, by announcing sales much earlier in the season to help offset the possible shortages of goods due to ongoing supply chain issues. JCPenney announced its Black Friday sales would begin Nov. 1, while its annual cyber sale would run Nov. 29 through Dec. 1.

“We know customers are looking to shop early and on their schedule this year and JCPenney’s holiday savings are designed to give them access to amazing value all season long,” Bill Cunningham, vice president of marketing strategy, said in a statement. “JCPenney is the perfect place for families to enjoy shopping together because we have gifts for every generation. To add a little fun to the experience, JCPenney is giving back to gift givers themselves through the Share the Joy sweepstakes.”
