L.A. to Give Away Reusable Grocery Bags

Los Angeles will pass out reusable grocery bags to help residents cope with a citywide ban on disposable plastic bags that goes into effect Jan. 1. The city is enlisting environmental groups and other nonprofits to help make the reusable bags from recycled plastic, in some cases using labor from veterans and former gang members. Los Angeles became the largest U.S. city to ban disposable bags with a vote last summer.
