Macy’s raids eBay for another exec
Macy’s President and former eBay executive Hal Lawton named one of his former co-workers and ex Walmart.com executive to a key digital role to help right the listing department store chain.
Macy’s named Jill Ramsey to the newly created role of Chief Product and Digital Revenue Officer, effective Jan. 8. The role was established to focus on reimagining how people shop, bridging the physical and digital worlds through seamless customer experiences, according to the company. Ramsey will have oversight of both product and revenue for macys.com and the Macy’s app. Her specific responsibilities will include digital revenue, enterprise product management, the enterprise portfolio, digital merchandise management, site production, and the user experience. She will also have responsibility for the product management teams that support both Macy’s and Bloomingdale’s.
Ramsey most recently served as Vice President, GM of Vertical Business at eBay, a role she held since 2015 in which she functioned as head of merchandising and had responsibility for the majority of eBay’s U.S. sales. Prior to eBay, Lawton spent 15 years with Walmart.com.
At Macy’s, she will report to President Hal Lawton who joined Macy’s in September 2017 after serving as Senior Vice President, eBay North America.
“I am extremely excited to have Jill join the Macy’s team. She is a strong fit for our business given her experience in product and digital leadership. Jill’s expertise in ecommerce and multichannel retail perfectly aligns to our goal to integrate technology through all aspects of the customer journey,” according to Lawton.
“Hal Lawton has deep expertise at the intersection of retail and technology, a diverse set of business experiences that give him a unique perspective, and a track record of successfully driving a change agenda at scale. I’m thrilled that he has chosen to join Macy’s,” said Macy’s CEO Jeff Gennette said at the time Lawton’s appointment was announced.
Lawton’s addition along with his appointment of Ramsey are seen as key moves as Macy’s looks to further transform its business and as the company notes, “work through the volatility of today’s retail landscape.”
Prior to his time at eBay, Lawton held leadership roles at Home Depot where he was responsible for jump-starting homedepot.com and building it into a nearly $2 billion business, according to Macy’s.
