Office Depot and OfficeMax are upping the order fulfillment game with a new 20-minute promise.

At 1,100 Office Depot and OfficeMax locations around the country, the merchants have announced a "20 Minute Pickup Promise." The guarantee ensures curbside and in-store pickup of online orders in less than 20 minutes. If the stores fail to meet this goal, the company promises to give customers a $20 off coupon for their next qualified purchase.

The move comes after the retailers previously launched a 30-minute promise for pickup order fulfillment. For orders that weren’t ready within 30 minutes, Office Depot and OfficeMax promised a $5 voucher for a future order. The retailers’ latest promotion underscores the rising competition in fulfillment speed across the retail industry.

Customers must place a qualified order online on the website or via the Office Depot mobile app at least one hour before the store's closing time and select "In-Store or Curbside Pickup" at checkout. The customer will receive an email stating that their item is ready for pick up within 20 minutes of placing it. Customers will receive an email with a $20 off coupon within 48 hours of placing their order if their order is not available in 20 minutes.

“Whether purchasing items to prepare your small business for the holiday rush, upgrading a home office, or thanking a favorite teacher with a holiday gift, our store pickup program is an industry-leading promise to customers to get them what they need in 20 minutes or less,” said Kevin Moffitt, executive vice president and chief retail officer for Office Depot.

The company also provides same-day deliveries, free deliveries on qualified orders and same-day printing services.
