International value-driven fashion retailer Primark has been expanding rapidly across the U.S., with the goal to scale to 60 stores domestically by 2026.

On Sept. 7, Primark will open a new store at Arundel Mills in Hanover, Maryland – the first Primark store in the state. The retailer’s latest store will offer shoppers 36,000 square feet of retail space merchandising fashion trends and essentials for the whole family as well as homewares and beauty.

"It has been a difficult few years for American families, and in this challenging economic environment, it has been extremely rewarding to introduce more communities to Primark's unique combination of fashion and affordability as we expand in the U.S.," said Kevin Tulip, president Primark U.S., in a press release. "I'm so excited to be opening our first store in the state of Maryland and hope that shoppers in the DMV [Washington, D.C.; Maryland and Virginia] region will visit us and find their new go-to destination for this season's styles at affordable prices that will delight even the most price-conscious shoppers."

The opening will bring Dublin-based Primark to 430 stores in 16 countries, predominantly in Europe, with 21 in the U.S. Internationally, the retailer aims to hit 530 stores by the end of 2026, including upcoming new markets Hungary, Romania and Slovakia.

This summer, the value-priced clothing retailer opened three U.S. stores — each more than 33,000 square feet — including:

  • Green Acres Mall in Long Island, New York, on June 22.
  • The Mills at Jersey Gardens in Elizabeth, New Jersey, on July 6.
  • Crossgates Mall in Albany, New York, on July 20.

The retailer will open another Mid-Atlantic location in 2024 at Tyson's Corner Center in Northern Virginia. Primark also plans to further expand into the southern U.S., including states such as Texas, in the future.

This year, Primark also launched a new U.S. website, www.primark.com.

As Retail Leader previously reported, last year, Primark opened three stores in New York City adding to its fleet of stores already in the city.
