Report: Kroger Backing Off Rite Aid Pickup

10/19/2016

The New York Post reports that antitrust considerations may discourage Kroger from picking up any of the 650 stores that the Federal Trade Commission is forcing Rite Aid to divest before it will be allowed to merge with Walgreens. The FTC fears that Kroger may close many of the stand-alone stores it acquires to shut down competition with its own in-store pharmacies. The merger between Walgreens and Rite Aid would create the world’s largest pharmacy retailer.
