Safeway Expects Profit Growth in 2012

Safeway Inc. is predicting profit growth this year, despite tepid same-store sales gains that are expected to lag Kroger's forecasted sales growth of more than 3 percent, Reuters said. Safeway expects to see same-store sales rise 1 percent to 2 percent this year as consumers watch their spending, the story said.
