Shoppers trust Walmart the most amid COVID-19 outbreak
Exclusive research from Retail Leader parent company Ensemble IQ shows that shoppers are still “shopping” amid the COVID-19 outbreak, even if rampant out of stocks make it difficult to do so in the traditional sense.
Although the retail environment is highly dynamic as supply chains struggle to catch up with surging demand, the survey of 1,001 shoppers show they are still shopping. In other words, they are being selective about purchases and evaluating promotional offers. However, there’s also the in-aisle reality that in some categories shoppers are going to buy whatever product is available.
As a result, retailers and brands should think twice before abandoning all promotional activity in the midst of the COVID-19 pandemic, since shoppers continue to look for deals as they stock up for an uncertain future, according to the research.
The timing of when the research was conducted is noteworthy because it took place March 13-15. On March 11, the World Health Organization declared COVID-19 a pandemic and then on March 15 during a press conference in the White House Rose Garden, President Trump declared a national emergency as top executives from some of the nation’s largest retailers took turns pledging their support.
Many of those same retailers ranked highly when it comes to which retailers Americans trust the most during times of crisis. For full details on the survey visit Retail Leader’s sister brand The Path to Purchase Institute.
