Tasty growth for natural, organic sales

Natural and organic sales are back on track with solid gains, according to a new report from Nielsen.

According to TheStreet.com, at the beginning of December 2017, dollar growth in the natural and organic category had slowed to 8.1% from 9.9% on a four-week basis. But by Dec. 30, 2017, year-over-year dollar growth was back up to 10.2%, Nielsen found.

Leading the growth in natural and organic groceries was the deli category, with 17.1% growth, and the produce category, with 16.2% growth. The only category that shrank in 2017 was seafood.

Four-week total grocery sales worsened slightly on a one-year basis, but the two-year trend showed "nice improvement," Nielsen reported.
