Walgreens Shareholders Oppose Tobacco Sales

08/26/2016

The proponents of the resolution, who include the Interfaith Center on Corporate Responsibility, argue that the sale of tobacco products in Walgreens pharmacies exposes the company to significant and long-term risks that may affect shareholder returns. Topping their concerns is the impact the sale of tobacco products will have on Walgreens' brand image as a company focused on health. CVS Health banned tobacco sales two years ago, a move that cost it front-end sales but garnered significant positive publicity.
