Walmart to Add ‘Holiday Helpers’
The helpers will be decked out in bright yellow vests, Santa’s elf hats and red and green satchels with “Holiday Helper” on the shoulder strap. They will perform a variety of services, including fetching items forgotten by shoppers before they got in line, helping shoppers unload items, and opening new registers as needed.
The Holiday Helpers program will begin Nov. 4 and will be supported by TV advertising. It is part of Walmart’s larger commitment to improved customer service in the wake of complaints that checkout lines and the floor in general were inadequately staffed.
In addition, Walmart is planning for a surge of orders for pickup, which the retailer says increases up to fivefold over the holidays. Walmart has expanded the assortment available for pickup overall, and has added tens of thousands of items in categories including apparel, seasonal décor, toys, and electronics for same-day pickup.
