Walmart turning Texas into Silicon Valley
Walmart will open yet another office focused on tech innovation in Texas next month.
According to the Dallas Morning News, Walmart is opening the office in Plano to focus on new systems designed to improve store operations.
Last month Walmart opened an engineering hub in Austin tasked with developing tools using machine learning, artificial intelligence, blockchain and Internet of Things for use across the company’s global operations.
Walmart has been investing heavily in technology and e-commerce.
Walmart already has a technology hub in Silican Valley called Store No. 8. That hub is working on an initiative to run an Amazon Go-style cashier-less store, as well as a personal shopping service run by Rent the Runway founder Jenny Fleiss.
Earlier this year Store No. 8 acquired Spatialand, a VR design platform and toolset for enterprise, brands and consumers to create immersive content destinations.
