Ahold Delhaize is building up its online grocery capacity as demand for the service grows.

The company's Peapod service is opening a new wareroom in North Coventry, Penn. to increase capacity for online grocery delivery in that region.

Peapod's warerooms are dedicated areas attached to Ahold Delhaize stores that allow for centralized distribution supporting efficiency and accuracy in order fulfillment. Peapod currently has 4 warehouse fulfillment centers and 21 warerooms that are attached to a physical store.

The investment in Pennsylvania comes as Peapod has experienced double digit growth in the region for the last three consecutive years. With more and more shoppers embracing the convenience of online grocery delivery, the new wareroom will enable Peapod to serve up to 25 percent more shoppers in the greater Philadelphia area. This will be the fourth Peapod wareroom to open in Pennsylvania, and will bring 120 new jobs to the North Coventry community.

"We want to thank greater Philadelphia Peapod and GIANT customers as they have responded positively (and literally) with open doors since 2011 to our service, leading to tremendous growth in this market," said Walt Lentz, Peapod's acting president. Shoppers choose Peapod because they know they can rely on us to deliver convenience, personalized solutions and great value on everyday essentials they care about the most."

Peapod and GIANT will be hosting a grand opening event on February 20th from 2-3:30pm at the wareroom, located within and attached to the GIANT store at 86 Glocker Way Pottstown, PA 19465.  Executives from Peapod and GIANT will be speaking along with local representatives. In honor of the opening, Peapod will be making a donation to the Coventry Food Pantry at the ceremony.
