Costco Cuts Number of Items to Boost Productivity

To boost productivity, Costco has reduced its active SKU count to about 3,750 this year from more than 4,100 items stocked three or four years ago, Richard Galanti, chief financial officer, said on a conference call posted on Morningstar.com. The company's top-selling 200 items represent about 35 percent to 40 percent of total sales, Galanti said.
