Microsoft will help CVS Health accelerate a data-driven, personalized customer experience that complies with patient privacy and confidentiality policies. Combining information from different areas across the company will enable CVS to enhance its omnichannel pharmacy capabilities and deliver customized health recommendations. The pharmacy retailer will also scale up its retail loyalty and personalization programs that use machine learning models running on cloud computing service Azure.

"We are rapidly transforming into a consumer-centric, integrated health solutions company, taking a digital-first, technology-forward approach to all that we do," said Roshan Navagamuwa, CIO of CVS Health. "Business services at this scale require a new level of partnership. Our collaboration with Microsoft will accelerate this work and empower our employees to provide quality care that is more personal and affordable."

Data science will also be used to improve access to care and health outcomes. CVS Health’s ability to create an easy-to-use patient experience has been critical in its role in the national COVID-19 vaccination effort, the company stated. CVS Health has administered roughly 43 million vaccines.

The partnership will also give CVS Health employees access to Microsoft Teams and Office products for their day-to-day responsibilities. Additionally, Microsoft and CVS Health will reimagine and simplify processes, as part of CVS Health's technology-driven digitization program. Microsoft has been selected as the retailer’s preferred cloud provider for applications. Azure will play a key role in CVS Health’s acceleration of its digital transformation through an expansion of the company’s current cloud presence to more than 1,500 new and existing business applications in Azure cloud.

The two companies will also explore innovative technology solutions to support customers, employees and ecosystem partners. CVS can leverage Microsoft HoloLens, Dynamics 365 Guides and Remote Assist to compify complex procedures. Microsoft Azure AI and cognitive capabilities can also extend to automate administrative and predictive processes and reduce waste through co-innovation with CVS Health's community presence and health care expertise.

"With the Azure platform and its AI capabilities, we will combine the power of data, the expansive reach of CVS Health's world-class solutions, and Microsoft Teams to connect health care experts and create customized care and services that enable people to live healthier lives,” Judson Althoff, Microsoft's chief commercial officer, said in a press release.
