Germany Fines Grocers in Beer Price Fixing

05/10/2016

The German Federal Cartel Office charged that the Edeka, Metro and Netto chains made secret deals with Anheuser-Busch between 2006 and 2009 to keep the prices of Beck's, Franziskaner, Hasseröder and other beers artificially high. German officials say the practice spread and eventually included several other beer producers and distributors. They allegedly were trying to keep up profits in a shrinking market, as Germany’s overall beer consumption has been dropping.
