A California-based maker of meat substitutes is more than tripling its manufacturing footprint in order to meet rising consumer demand.
Beyond Meat, a Los Angeles based producer of plant-based meat substitutes, has opened a new manufacturing plant in Columbia, Mo., to expand its capacity. The new plant will generate more than 250 new jobs in 2018.
“We first came to Missouri in 2009 to access the outstanding research being conducted at the University of Missouri. We have been investing in, and growing together with, Columbia, Mo., ever since, and I’m pleased to announce this latest manufacturing investment, our largest to date. Our expansion not only brings more jobs and opportunity to this special community but also furthers Missouri’s position as a leader in the production of plant-based meat,” said Ethan Brown, CEO and Founder of Beyond Meat.
The Beyond Meat brand produces plant-based burgers and a new sausage, called Beyond Sausage, as well as other plant-based options. A huge piece of the puzzle to their continuously growing success is an increase in consumer demand for sustainability. This demand has been recognized by celebrities and high profile investors, such as Bill Gates, who has invested in the Beyond Meat company.
The Beyond Burger has distribution at more than 30,000 restaurants and retailers. The company has 200 employees.
