Kroger Aims to Take on 20K Associates in Nationwide Holiday Hiring Event

Supermarket chain Kroger is hiring 20,000 associates during its national holiday hiring event on Oct. 13. The event covers both virtual and on-site interviews for open roles in retail, e-commerce, manufacturing, supply chain, merchandising, logistics, corporate, plus pharmacy and healthcare roles.

Kroger is just the latest major retailer to seek tens of thousands of new employees. As retailers gear up for the holiday shopping season, retailers including Walmart, Amazon, Target and Dollar Tree, have advertised hybrid hiring events for thousands of open roles. Kroger’s latest hiring initiative comes as the retail industry faces a labor shortage and high competition for available associates, leading several retailers to increase wages and expand benefits.

“The Kroger Family of Companies is eager to welcome 20,000 associates to our organization as we prepare for an incredible holiday season where customers are planning to return to larger family gatherings and celebrations," said Tim Massa, Kroger's senior vice president and chief people officer. “We're committed to offering associates a culture of opportunity and career with purpose, competitive pay and benefits, and flexible schedules. 

Kroger boasts several resources, benefits and training to support and make the lives of their associates easier, including:

  • Wages & Benefits: Kroger Co. has a compensation package that includes competitive salaries and wages, healthcare and retirement, with average hourly rates ranging from $16 to over $21 per hour.
  • Continued Education & Tuition Reimbursement: Kroger offers up to $21,000 for both part- and full-time associates, covering GED to Ph.D. education programs.
  • Training & Development: Employees have access to on-demand and role-specific training, in addition to resources through FEED desktop and mobile via modern learning platforms like Axonify. Leadership, career advancement, and diversity, equity and inclusion training are also available.
  • Health & Wellness: Employees are entitled to resources on safety and wellbeing, along with platforms available for associates 24/7, as well as overall health care. Additionally, the organization awards a one-time payment of $100 to associates who become fully COVID-19 vaccinated.
