NACS Details End-Of-Year Store Counts


The number of convenience stores in the United States totaled 148,000 as of Dec. 31, up 1 percent from the prior year, according to data from Nielsen and the Association for Convenience & Fuel Retailing. Convenience stores outnumbered the cumulative total of competing retailers, including 33,000 supermarkets, 38,500 drug stores, 23,000 dollar stores, and 13,200 small grocery stores in 2011.
