Sprouts Farmers Market is readying nearly a dozen new stores for opening this summer, with its latest location to open in Fort Myers, Florida, on July 21.

As Retail Leader previously reported, Sprouts plans to open 30 stores this year in its new smaller footprint of about 23,000 square feet. Sprouts also has a pipeline of more than 80 approved stores and nearly 60 executed leases, said Jack Sinclair, Sprouts’ CEO, during the grocer’s 2022 fourth-quarter earnings call.

Earlier this year, the specialty grocer detailed plans to close about a dozen stores this year. The closing stores are about 30% larger than Sprouts’ current smaller prototype. The grocer also recently acquired its only two licensed stores, both located in California, meaning the retailer now owns all stores operating under the Sprouts Farmers Market name.

As highlighted in its annual Environmental, Social and Governance report, Sprouts also said it plans to build new stores within 250 miles of its distribution centers to reduce its transportation-related emissions, as part of its efforts to cut back Scope 3 emissions.

This summer’s other new Sprouts openings will predominantly be in Florida and include:

  • Orlando, Florida, on August 4.
  • Colorado Springs, Colorado, on August 4.
  • West Melbourne, Florida, on August 11.
  • Kenneth City, Florida, on August 18
  • Queen Creek, Arizona, on August 18.
  • Boca Raton, Florida, on August 18.
  • Tampa, Florida, on August 25.
  • Rialto, California, on September 1.
  • Haddon Township, New Jersey, on September 1.

Sprouts has already opened stores in Tennessee, Arizona, California, Florida and Nevada this year.

Headquartered in Phoenix, Sprouts operates approximately 380 stores in 23 states nationwide — with the majority of its stores in California — and employs approximately 31,000 team members. Sprouts offers shoppers a farmer’s market in-store experience and open layout merchandising fresh produce at the center of the store. Innovative, seasonal and attribute-driven products — such as organic, plant-based, keto and paleo — offer a treasure hunt shopping experience amid Sprouts’ healthy assortment, the retailer said.
